Report: Dolan fires security chief following Oakley scuffle

New York Knicks owner James Dolan has fired security chief Frank Benedetto in the wake of Wednesday's incident involving Charles Oakley, a source told Murray Weiss of DNAInfo.com.

The move comes two days after Oakley was forcibly removed from a game by Madison Square Garden security. The 53-year-old was later charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of trespassing.

The Knicks remained silent on Benedetto's reported dismissal.

"We don't comment on employees that have left the company," MSG spokesman Barry Watkins told Weiss.

Oakley told reporters Thursday that Dolan was responsible for his removal, saying he was minding his own business prior to being ejected. Knicks PR later released a statement calling Oakley's account of what happened "pure fiction."

A number of current and former players have voiced support for Oakley, believing Dolan mistreated the Knicks legend.
