Casspi breaks thumb in Pelicans debut: 'It's unfortunate'
Omri Casspi's first game as a member of the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday night will be his last for the foreseeable future.
Following his team's blowout 129-99 defeat to the Houston Rockets at Smoothie King Center, Casspi revealed to reporters that he broke his right thumb while trying to steal the ball from Eric Gordon.
"It's unfortunate. Bad luck," the 28-year-old said, according to NBA.com's Jim Eichenhofer.
While a definitive timeline for Casspi's return has yet to be determined, the early belief is that he'll miss four-to-six weeks with the injury, according to ESPN's Justin Verrier.
Casspi was one of only three Pelicans players to score in double figures against Houston, dropping 12 in 23 minutes of action on 5-of-9 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 from behind the arc.
He was a part of the package that brought All-Star DeMarcus Cousins to the Big Easy, with Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway, and two draft picks heading to the Sacramento Kings.
