Spurs win 'DNP Bowl,' claim head-to-head tiebreaker over Warriors
It contained no drama whatsoever, but the San Antonio Spurs are now within half a game of first in the Western Conference after Saturday's 107-85 rout of the Golden State Warriors.
In a contest that saw a total of 31 NBA All-Star Games, 21 All-NBA teams, and three league MVPs on the bench for various reasons, the game's leading scorer was Golden State's Ian Clark with 36 points.
Patty Mills led the way for the winners with 21.
Beyond the injuries and rest-related benchings that sat Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala. Kawhi Leonard, and Tony Parker, the Spurs got a concerning jolt Saturday with news that LaMarcus Aldridge will be sidelined indefinitely with a heart arrhythmia.
The Spurs' victory gives them the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Warriors. The two teams meet for a third and final time this regular season on March 29 in San Antonio.
The previous meeting between the two was a dud as well - albeit a star-laden one - in the Spurs' 129-100 opening-night victory. On Saturday, the multiple season lows the Warriors hit almost seem deserving of an asterisk.
