Warriors 1st team since Jordan's Bulls to win 60-plus in 3 straight seasons
The Golden State Warriors continue to rewrite the NBA history books, becoming the first team in 19 years - and just the sixth team ever - to record three consecutive seasons of at least 60 wins.
The Boston Celtics are the only franchise to have recorded multiple such streaks, while the mid-80s Los Angeles Lakers are the only team to reel off four straight 60-win seasons.
3 straight 60-win seasons | Team | Total wins | Titles (Finals appearances) |
---|---|---|---|
1970/71-1972/73 | Bucks | 189 | 1 (1) |
1979/80-1981/82 | Celtics | 186 | 1 (1) |
1983/84-1985/86 | Celtics | 192 | 2 (3) |
1984/85-1987/88 (4 straight) | Lakers | 251 | 3 (3) |
1995/96-1997/98 | Bulls | 203 | 3 (3) |
2014/15-2016/17 (active) | Warriors | 200 | 1 (2) |
The Warriors improved to 60-14 with a 113-106 victory over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night, which also helped Steve Kerr become the fastest head coach in North American sports history to earn 200 wins.
A year after the 73-9 Warriors broke the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' record for wins in a season, Golden State has matched another one of the Bulls' accomplishments achieved during Michael Jordan's heyday.
The Warriors need only three wins from their final eight games to become the first team in history to record three consecutive 63-win seasons.
