Kerr: Thompson unlikely to play this season

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is throwing cold water on the idea of Klay Thompson playing this season.

"You have to look at it realistically," Kerr told NBC's Logan Murdock. "I had an ACL (tear) in college, and I missed a whole season. Generally, an ACL for a basketball player is a full-year recovery, and if it's a full year for Klay, that puts them out for the season."

Thompson tore his left ACL in Game 6 of the NBA Finals on June 13. After the guard underwent surgery July 2, his agent announced a recovery timeline of five-to-seven months - which would allow for a February return. Warriors general manager Bob Myers said recently that Thompson's status wouldn't be updated until after the All-Star break.

Kerr, however, is going with a more conservative estimate.

"We've kind of left the door open in case the rehab goes perfectly and the doctors say he can go," Kerr said. "But the reality is, on April 1, that’s the nine-month mark."

The Warriors' regular season ends April 15.
