Report: Knicks opposed to trading future 1st-round picks
With the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline fast approaching, the New York Knicks are opposed to including any future first-round picks in a potential move, sources told SNY's Ian Begley.
The team currently possesses all of its own future first-rounders in addition to two of the Mavericks' future first-round picks the club acquired in last season's trade which sent former All-Star Kristaps Porzingis to Dallas.
New York owns the Mavericks' unprotected 2021 pick and their top-10 protected 2023 pick. If the latter doesn't convey between 2023-25, the Knicks will obtain the Mavericks' 2025 second-round pick instead.
New York currently sits next-to-last in the Eastern Conference with an 11-29 record, limiting the likelihood the team pursues short-term options on the trade market.
The Knicks have been linked to center Andre Drummond, but the Detroit Pistons are reportedly seeking a first-round pick in exchange for their big man. Though Drummond is likely to hit free agency this summer (he has a player option for 2020-21), any club that deals for him prior to the trade deadline would retain his Bird rights, giving that team an edge in re-signing the 26-year-old to a long-term deal.
