Suns G/F P.J. Tucker hopes to re-sign with Phoenix, and 'retire a Sun'
Earlier this month, Forbes named Suns forward P.J. Tucker as the most underpaid player in the NBA.
Over the last two seasons, Tucker has appeared in 151 games, spanning 4,138 minutes, for the Phoenix Suns. His total salary compensation over that time? A grand total of $1.65 million, which translates to $398 per minute. Compare that to Derrick Rose, who has earned an average of $20,187 per minute over the past two seasons.
Tucker will have an opportunity to be properly compensated this off-season. The gritty wing defender will likely garner significant interest as a restricted free-agent. If the choice were his, Tucker would like to resign with the Suns.
"[The Suns] brought me here. I think I exceeded their expectations and mine with what has transpired. Of course, I want to retire a Sun," Tucker said.
The Suns will hold the right to match any contract offered to Tucker, and as long as the terms are reasonable, the Suns will likely re-sign their best '3-and-D' wing player.
Tucker is averaging 9.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game this season. He is shooting a career high 40.4% on 2.3 three-point attempts per game.
