Greivis Vasquez on his future in Toronto: 'It would be truly heartbreaking if I'm not back'
It seems that Raptors point guard Greivis Vasquez was quite taken with the city of Toronto after spending a half-season with the team this season.
Fresh off its first-round defeat at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets, the soon-to-be free-agent professed his love of the city and the franchise to the media.
Vasquez also went on to add that if Raptors GM Masai Ujiri elects to retain its current grouping, the squad has the potential of developing into an "OKC East" with its bevy of young talent.
Through 61 games played with the Raptors this season, Vasquez posted per-game averages of 9.5 points and 3.7 assists while shooting 38.9% from three-point range. His numbers bumped up to 10.1 points and 5.1 assists during the post-season.
The 27-year old Venezuelan point guard is a restricted free-agent this season, and Toronto has the financial flexibility to retain their sixth man. However, Ujiri will likely hold off on a decision on Vasquez before the status of unrestricted free-agent point guard Kyle Lowry is resolved.
Vasquez filled-in as a scoring threat off the bench, something similar to the role played by the Spurs' Manu Ginobili. Last season, Vasquez led the NBA in total assists as a member of the Pelicans. The four-year journeyman has played for four different teams in his career.
