Report: Dario Saric will come to NBA if drafted by Celtics or Lakers
Talk about a power play from a player's camp.
Dario Saric, the Croatian forward who has bounced all around draft boards this season as reports waffled on whether or not he'd enter the NBA draft, he changed agents and his father claimed he doesn't want his son going to the NBA right away, may have just increased or killed his draft stock appreciably.
Saric's camp has let it be known that the 20-year old is ready to come to the NBA...if drafted by the Boston Celtics or Los Angeles Lakers, according to Eurobasket.com.
Oh, word? You're willing to commit to coming to the NBA if one of the league's marquee franchises - ones with top-seven picks, no less - select you? No kidding.
Now, if either franchise is high on him (and there's good reason to be), perhaps this makes them more comfortable selecting him sixth (Boston) or seventh (L.A.). But that may be a little high - DraftExpress and Chad Ford both rank him ninth, with Ford suggesting he'd likely stay in the draft if he gets a promise in the top 10 (players can withdraw from the draft until June 16 if they have never done so before).
What could happen is that teams below the Celtics and Lakers could become even more worried Saric won't come to the NBA right away, meaning they're less likely to use a lottery pick on him.
In short, Saric's draft rank is likely to oscillate up and down until teams have a firm handle on what situations he would or would not come over to the NBA for. The more certain it seems he'll be NBA-bound, the higher is stock will go.
