Lance Stephenson's agent says his client wants to remain with the Pacers
Although his antics in the playoffs sullied his reputation around the league, it seems the Indiana Pacers and guard Lance Stephenson are destined to be together after all.
On Monday, Pacers president Larry Bird stated his interest in retaining Stephenson, who is an unrestricted free-agent this offseason.
Their interest seems mutual, as per Stephenson's agent Alberto Banks' comments to Adam Zagoria of Zagsblog:
[The Pacers] are a quality organization from the top down. We are going to try to get a deal done. The communication has been there for the last four years with the Pacers and it has been beneficial for the Pacers and for Lance. I hope we can come to terms
Stephenson averaged 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game during the regular season. Given his production and his age (23), Stephenson should be in line for a contract near the $10-12 million dollar range.
However, his personality issues, of which have come into focus during the Pacers' failed playoff run, may cost him at the negotiation table.
As it currently stands, the Pacers are very close to the salary cap next season, but they hold Stephenson's Bird rights, which would allow them the latitude to retain the mercurial guard.
