Trevor Booker says 'a lot of teams are calling that are interested'
No accounts of tampering have been reported with superstars like Minnesota forward Kevin Love, but when it comes to players such as Wizards forward Trevor Booker, multiple teams are apparently cutting the line and breaking the rules to land the potential free-agent.
Here's Booker in his own words, as per GoUpState.com:
It's the first time so my agent is talking me through it, letting me know every step. A lot of teams are calling right now that are interested. We're in negotiations with a few different teams, so I guess we'll just see how the summer pans out.
NBA tampering rules forbid teams from contacting players who are under contract with other teams. Booker is currently under contract with the Washington Wizards until at least July 1. Teams found guilty of tampering could be charged with a fine up to $50 000, according to Larry Coon's CBA FAQ.
Of course, it's also possible that Booker is overstating his claim in an effort to inflate his value this offseason.
Washington has yet to tender the forward a qualifying offer for next season. If the Wizards choose not to tender an offer, Booker would become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
He posted per-game averages of 6.8 points and 5.3 rebounds as a backup big in Washington.
