Report: Sixers interested in drafting Embiid with No. 3 pick
The Philadelphia 76ers are clearly willing to tempt fate by drafting yet another big man with injury concerns.
According to a report from Bob Cooney of the Philadelphia Daily News, the Sixers are "very interested" in drafting former Kansas center Joel Embiid with the number three overall pick.
Embiid, of course, is set to miss the next four-to-six months recovering from surgery on his right foot. He also has a history of back injuries.
However, when healthy, the 20-year-old Embiid is considered a generational talent. The 7-foot center boasts a massive 7-foot-5 wingspan and is seen by many draft prognosticators as the best prospect in the draft. He averaged 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game with the Jayhawks last season.
Assuming the Sixers pick Embiid, this would be the second year in a row where they have opted to draft a defense-first center with injury concerns. Last season, they took Nerlens Noel with the sixth pick. Noel sat out the entire season while recovering from knee surgery.
