Report: Mavericks interested in Luol Deng
At a certain point, it becomes a question of "which free agents aren't the Dallas Mavericks interested in?"
According to a report from Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas, in addition to Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony and Lakers center Pau Gasol, the Mavs are also interested in signing Luol Deng.
However, the team does have some understandable concerns about the oft-injured forward. Per MacMahon's report:
Sources say the Mavs also have interest in free-agent small forward Luol Deng, although there are concerns about his durability after the two-time All-Star missed 75 games over the previous four seasons and led the league in minutes per game twice in the last four seasons.
Health is certainly a concern with Deng. In addition to his aforementioned injuries sustained over the last four seasons, Deng played a whopping amount of minutes as a member of the Chicago Bulls under coach Tom Thibodeau, who is notorious for overworking his players. Deng led the league in minutes played per game between 2011 and 2013.
When healthy, the 29-year-old small forward is a highly productive player. His calling card comes on the defensive end, where he is a lock-down wing, but he does also possess a good scoring touch. In 63 games played between the Bulls and Cavaliers last season, Deng averaged 16 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.
