Report: Cavaliers remain 'torn' between Parker and Wiggins with No. 1 pick
With plenty of trade options, including offers from the Utah Jazz and Philadelphia 76ers, available to them if they can't come to a decision, the Cleveland Cavaliers continue to struggle in deciding whose name they will call out with the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft on Thursday.
The front office remains conflicted on the choice between Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker following the injury to presumed top pick Joel Embiid. Wiggins has had better workouts with the club but Parker was thought to be the preference up to that point.
ESPN provides the details on the turmoil at Cavs HQ:
Just two days prior to the NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers are split on whether to take Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins with the top overall pick, multiple sources told ESPN.com.
"They are torn," one source close to the situation told ESPN.com. "They met for three hours and all they talked about was those two guys."
"They haven't come to a decision yet," added another industry source.
Cleveland general manager David Griffin had decided to choose 7-footer Joel Embiid with the No. 1 pick, sources told ESPN.com.
In other words, the Cavs thought their decision had been made and they're now struggling to adapt in the wake of the Embiid news.
The report indicates that Parker may be a slight favorite due to the immediate impact he can make and the holes he fills on the offensive end, though his workout (see the post below) is causing pause. Wiggins, meanwhile, provides immediate defensive value and may have a higher upside but doesn't promise the scoring potential, especially in the short-term, that Parker does.
Tune in Thursday, we suppose.
