Report: Cavaliers make Tyronn Lue highest-paid assistant in NBA history
The news that the Cleveland Cavaliers were able to lure Tyronn Lue away from a favorable situation with the Los Angeles Clippers came as a bit of surprise.
Well, now we know how they did it.
The Cavaliers have made Tyronn Lue the highest-paid assistant coach in league history, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.
Lue agreed to a four-year, $6.5-million deal. The final two years of the deal will pay Lue $1.75 million and $2 million, respectively. The fourth year of the deal is a team option.
Lue will play a major role in helping new head coach David Blatt transition to the NBA after years of coaching in Europe. The Cavaliers' management reportedly grew fond of Lue during the interview process, and immediately began courting him for an associate role after hiring Blatt.
At 37 years of age, Lue is regarded as one of the best young head-coaching prospects after serving five years as an assistant under Doc Rivers with the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers.
