The Philadelphia 76ers selected Tennessee wing Jordan McRae with the No. 58 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft on Thursday night, a pick they received from the San Antonio Spurs for an undisclosed return.
With McRae, Philly has a do-everything kind of wing who should be able to carve out run but won't necessarily be a game-changer. Already 23, the 6-foot-7 senior has the length to play the three and has shown flashes of 3-point range that would make him a potential low-end 3-and-D type of player. As it is, it's unclear if McRae can put everything together in a meaningful way or if he'll simply be a back-end guy. This late, the latter would be okay, too.
It's a bit strange to see the Sixers trade back into the draft this late given how many picks they had, but at 58, well, what's the difference? The cost if he doesn't pan out is minimal.
