The Toronto Raptors selected Connecticut forward DeAndre Daniels with the No. 37 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft on Thursday night.
Daniels has an NCAA championship, which means he was surely tagged with the positive intangibles labels that winners get. That's not necessarily wrong, but stating it first does a disservice to his skill set, which includes deep range and a great transition game thanks to top-flight athleticism. It's unclear which forward position he may ultimately play and if he'll be able to guard either one, but the jumper alone is pure enough to warrant giving him a chance.
This is another fairly off-board pick for the Raptors, as Daniels was considered a borderline late-second-round pick. He's a solid fit for the Raptors, who need another wing, especially one who can shoot the three and handle bigger wings on the block. He should find rotation run behind Terrence Ross and DeMar DeRozan as the first forward off the pine.
