Bucks' Jabari Parker: 'I'm trying to be a throwback player'
Thursday night marked the start of what Jabari Parker hopes will be a lengthy career with the Milwaukee Bucks.
"They're a young team and I feel I can contribute right off the bat," the former Duke forward said after being drafted No. 2 overall, via Charles F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "I feel like I'm going to be able to grow with that organization. I'm trying to be a throwback player and only stick with one team.
"This might bite me in the butt some years from now, but right now I just want to stick with whoever is rolling with me."
Milwaukee was long-rumored as Parker's preferred destination, in part because it would put him in close proximity to his hometown of Chicago. When the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Andrew Wiggins at No. 1, it became clear that Parker would get his wish.
Now, he hopes to join the ranks of some the franchise's greats.
"They really did have a lot of success, especially in the old days with Lew Alcindor, the Big O (Oscar Robertson), even in the '90s when they made the playoffs with Sam Cassell," Parker said.
"I just want to be remembered as one of them, too, since I'm going to the Bucks."
