Bucks unveil head coach Jason Kidd
A week after he was the coach of the Brooklyn Nets, Jason Kidd sat in the middle of the BMO Harris Bradley Center as he was officially ushered in as the 14th head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks.
"I'm very excited to be here in Milwaukee," Kidd said during his press conference. "This is about the Milwaukee Bucks, and I am excited for this opportunity."
Kidd caught the Nets by surprise when he reportedly requested an increased role which included having a say in decisions surrounding basketball operations. When that request was denied, his agent contacted Milwaukee about brokering a potential deal.
"When you look at myself I'm a coach and that's what it's all about," Kidd said when asked if he pursued a similar role with the Bucks.
After coaching a veteran squad in Brooklyn, the 41-year-old takes over in a small market with a youthful Bucks team that lost 67 games last season.
"It's not about the market, it's about being able to teach and I have a great opportunity here in Milwaukee with a young roster to be able to, our goal is to become a championship team.
"I've played in small markets, I've played in big markets, basketball is inside the arena, it doesn't recognize what market you're in."
Kidd kept things civil when asked about his departure and Billy King.
"This is business, I think Billy [King] said it best. This is business and that's what it comes down to."
