With the Houston Rockets unsure of their chances to land Carmelo Anthony and a reported "breakdown in communication" in Miami, general manager Daryl Morey is already beginning to formulate contingency plans, as he's wont to do.
One of those secondary plans could include leveraging the end of The Big Three for their own gain, as the Rockets are said to covet Chris Bosh. The draw is obvious, as Bosh is a Texas native and would be an ideal fit on both ends of the floor alongside center Dwight Howard.
Houston plans to shift their attention the Georgia Tech product's way shortly, according to a report from ESPN.
From the report:
Sources told ESPN.com on Thursday night that the Rockets -- while still holding out hope that Anthony will choose them after hosting him Wednesday in Houston -- have already let Bosh know how interested they are in bringing the Dallas native back to Texas.
...Most league observers continue to believe that Heat president Pat Riley ultimately will convince all three Heat stars to re-up by next week, even if Bosh and Wade are forced to take pay cuts.
But sources say the Rockets are determined to test Bosh's resolve in the event Anthony elects to return to the New York Knicks or chooses one of his other three primary suitors this week.
The Rockets can open up the requisite cap space to lure Bosh by dealing Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin, the former of whom has already been dealt unofficially. Then it would be a matter of convincing Bosh he has a better chance to win with Howard, James Harden and company over a Heat team that may or may not include LeBron James.
At 30 years old, a maximum contract without a resultant step down in teammate quality may be attractive, but obviously all of this is hopeful speculation on Houston's part until James makes a decision - it's tough to see Bosh moving on without knowing, officially, what James' plans are.
