Parsons is a restricted free agent, and the Houston Rockets can match any deals floated his way. As noted by Stein, the Rockets will have three days in their decision to match. Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports notes that Parsons will sign shortly after midnight on Thursday.
The move has ramification for both the Mavericks and Rockets' cap. After Parsons signs, Dallas' cap space will be largely consumed by Parsons' deal, while the Rockets will still retain theirs until they choose to match.
The Rockets are reportedly interested in bringing in another free agent in addition to re-signing Parsons, meaning they will have 72 hours to consummate an agreement.
The 25-year-old is an up-and-coming small forward who averaged 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and four assists per game. He is a strong perimeter defender and can reliably knock down three-pointers. He was reportedly attracted to Dallas due to their apparent willingness to play up-tempo.
The contract will also include a 15 percent trade kicker, per Yahoo Sports.
If you've ever wondered how a deal comes together, by the way...
