The Chicago Bulls officially announced the signing of European super-prospect Nikola Mirotic, with GM Gar Forman and head coach Tom Thibodeau introducing the 6-foot-10 forward at a press conference Friday.
After being drafted back in 2011, Mirotic spent three years with Real Madrid of Spain's Liga ACB, and has made back-to-back All-Euroleague Second Teams. Exempted from the league's rookie scale due to the amount of time he spent overseas, Mirotic signed on for three years and $17 million.
At the press conference, Mirotic, speaking through an interpreter (he admits his English needs work) said of his upcoming initiation into the NBA, "I know it's going to be hard, especially in the beginning. But I strongly believe I'm ready."
Said Thibodeau: "We love the characteristics he has, his intelligence and his drive. Each year, he's improved significantly."
Mirotic will be part of what should be a formidable Bulls frontcourt, joining newcomer Pau Gasol, reigning Defensive Player of the Year Joakim Noah, and elite rim-protector Taj Gibson.
