Rockets' Howard questionable for Monday after PRP treatment on knee

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Dwight Howard continued to rest his right knee on Sunday, sitting out the Houston Rockets' practice with an eye toward suiting up on Monday.

Howard had a platelet-rich protein injection in the knee on Thursday to aid with some soreness that forced him out of Wednesday's game. He also missed the team's Saturday game, a surprising shorthanded upset victory over the league's top offense, the Dallas Mavericks.

Don't let a one-game result confuse things, though - Howard is paramount to any sustained Rockets success, and the combination of Tarik Black, Joey Dorsey and small-ball lineups alone can't replicate what he brings to the table on each end of the floor.

It's a positive, then, that Howard is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the New York Knicks. Earlier in the weekend, no timetable had been established and it was unclear when he might return. At least Monday represents a target.

In 10 games this season, the 28-year-old Howard is averaging 18.8 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks while shooting 57.5 percent from the floor. The Rockets have been 18.8 points per-100 possessions better with him on the court than without.
