Warriors outlast scrappy Bulls to extend win streak to franchise-record 12
The Golden State Warriors set a franchise high with their 12th consecutive victory Saturday, besting the Chicago Bulls by a score of 112-102.
The Warriors were led in scoring by power forward Draymond Green, who poured in a career-high 31 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists, four steals and three blocks. Shooting guard Klay Thompson chipped in with 24 points and five rebounds.
Given the Warriors' plethora of weapons along the perimeter, the Bulls opted to contain Stephen Curry and Thompson by playing a conservative pick-and-roll defense. This often involved dropping a big back in coverage, which left screeners open along the perimeter. Green was able to capitalize as a result, sinking seven 3-pointers.
The gritty affair was characterized by a series of runs. The Warriors raced out to a 22-10 edge in the first before the Bulls pulled ahead with a 25-7 run of their own. The Warriors managed to pull ahead once more heading into the half, leading 61-49, before the Bulls edged even in the third.
However, the Warriors established a lead they would not relinquish in the fourth quarter thanks to a pair of triples from Thompson and Green.
The Bulls' offense often sputtered due in part to lackluster play from their three-headed point guard combination of Derrick Rose, Kirk Hinrich and Aaron Brooks, who scored a combined 22 points on 6-of-26 shooting from the field.
Chicago was led in scoring by Jimmy Butler, who scored 24 points in the loss. Pau Gasol also chipped in with 22 points and 20 rebounds in the losing effort.
