Nets' Williams suffers calf strain vs. Cavs

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Brooklyn point guard Deron Williams limped to the locker room in the second quarter of Friday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers with a strained right calf. The Nets announced shortly after that Williams will not return.

There was no contact on the play in question when Williams appeared to come up lame. Williams threw a pass into Kevin Garnett with 4:40 remaining in the first half, doubled over somewhat, then gingerly moved back down the court on defense.

Williams said after the game that his calf tightened up on him in the first quarter, and was then aggravated in the second. He's set to undergo an MRI on Saturday.

Williams, who has missed time in recent years with a variety of ankle injuries, entered Friday's game averaging 16.2 points, 6.9 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals through 24 games.
