Kanter to return to Jazz starting lineup over Gobert out of fairness
Any fans hoping to get a longer look at a starting Utah Jazz frontcourt of Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert will have to wait.
One game after coming off the bench in his first outing back from a sprained ankle, Enes Kanter will return to his position as the team's starting center on when the Jazz take on the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday. Jazz head coach Quin Snyder said that he doesn't believe it's fair for Kanter to have lost his spot due to injury, so Gobert will return to the bench for the time being.
It's a little unfortunate for Jazz fans, as Gobert has been a defensive revelation of late. Not only is Gobert averaging 3.8 blocks per-36 minutes, opponents are shooting a paltry 38.1 percent at the rim when Gobert is defending - an elite mark.
Kanter is the superior offensive option, but as the tables in the post below show, the team has been better with Gobert. The Gobert-Favors pairing has been the team's most effective.
Kanter is a restricted free agent this summer, so while both players are 22 years old, the two-plus years remaining on Gobert's deal make him more of a long-term certainty in Utah.
It's a situation worth keeping an eye on, especially if Gobert continues to outplay Kanter overall.
