Report: Pistons believe Brandon Jennings suffered torn Achilles
Brandon Jennings could be facing a potential season-ending injury.
The Detroit Pistons fear that the point guard suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Saturday's loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.
An MRI will be conducted Sunday to determine the severity of the injury, but it didn't look good when Jennings went down in the third quarter holding his left leg. He was in visible discomfort and had to be helped off the court before eventually being taken through the tunnel in a wheelchair.
The play was innocent enough, as Jennings simply lost his footing and didn't appear to roll his ankle. But he immediately clutched the back of his foot, which is where the tendon is located.
Jennings' loss would be deflating for the Pistons, who have turned their season around since waiving Josh Smith in late December. Jennings, who has been chastised throughout his career for being an inefficient shoot-first guard, has been leading the turnaround.
The sixth-year guard - who scored 16 points with four assists in Saturday's 101-86 loss - entered the day averaging 20 points on 44 percent shooting from the field and 40.4 percent from long range, 7.2 assists and 1.3 steals in 15 games since Smith departed. The Pistons went 12-3 record over that stretch.
Detroit's big run has the team sitting 1.5 games back from the final playoff spot in the East after going 5-23 with Smith on the roster.
