Report: Magic could replace Jacque Vaughn soon
Jacque Vaughn's tenure in Orlando may be coming to an end.
After it was reported on Thursday that Magic management isn't happy with the third-year coach, Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported Friday morning that Vaughn's status beyond Saturday's game against the Dallas Mavericks is uncertain.
"It isn't a matter of if, anymore, but when," Wojnarowski quotes "a source close to the decision-making process."
Vaughn, whose 2015-16 option has already been picked up, might have been fired already if not for the lack of experienced coaches on the team's staff ready to take over as interims, according to Wojnarowski.
ESPN's Chris Broussard added that "several league executives have speculated" Scott Skiles could be a replacement for Vaughn after an assistant coach takes over on an interim basis.
The Magic remain a young, rebuilding team, but they have the talent to compete for a playoff berth in the weak Eastern Conference. Instead, they enter the weekend 13th-place in the East at 15-34, 5.5 games behind the eighth seed.
The Magic have gone 58-155 over two-and-a-half seasons under Vaughn, who served as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs from 2010-2012.
Vaughn enjoyed a 12-year NBA career with the Spurs, Nets, Magic, Atlanta Hawks and Utah Jazz.
