Carmelo Anthony says he'll likely shut things down after All-Star Game
Carmelo Anthony has made it clear for the majority of his dismal, injury-riddled campaign that one of his goals was to represent the Knicks at the All-Star Game in New York.
He appears to have no intention of abandoning that goal, saying that he plans to participate in the game, even if it's only for a few minutes. Afterwards, however, it looks increasingly probable that Anthony will cut his season short, and undergo the surgery that's long been recommended for his bothersome left knee.
Anthony said Thursday on ESPN Radio that he's highly likely to shut things down after the All-Star Game.
This shouldn't come as a shock. With the Knicks having long since abandoned any hope of being even remotely competitive this season, there's no reason to delay the inevitable - especially given that Anthony doesn't seem to be enjoying himself right now.
"It's little things that I'm doing out there on the court," Anthony said earlier in the week. "I'm restricted, I'm not getting that power or that bounce, and then to do something like I did today, I think I'm getting closer to that point. I think due to the lack of movement, the lack of explosiveness I have right now - I'm just trying to compensate and try to figure it out as it goes along."
The All-Star Game will be played at Madison Square Garden this Sunday.
