Reports: Suns hope to re-sign Dragic, but ready to deal the pending UFA

The threat of losing point guard Goran Dragic without compensation in free agency appears to be pushing the Phoenix Suns closer to making a move.

After last week's report that the Suns preferred to trade Isaiah Thomas rather than Dragic in an effort to balance their guard-heavy roster, Bleacher Report's Howard Beck reported Monday the team is now ready to part with Dragic.

Tuesday could be a huge day in the team's decision-making process regarding Dragic, however, as Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski later reported that Dragic's agent will meet with team officials then. Wojnarowski also added that the team still hopes to re-sign the 28-year-old guard.

Dragic - an All-NBA third team selection last season - is averaging 16.2 points, 4.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds and a steal on 50 percent shooting, is in the final year of his contract and will be become an unrestricted free agent come July.

The Suns, meanwhile, already have over $20 million per year committed to fellow guards Thomas and Eric Bledsoe over the next three seasons.

The Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers are expected to pursue Dragic, while the Suns are reportedly seeking a first-round draft pick in any potential deal involving Dragic.

After missing the postseason by one game last year, the Suns enter the All-Star break clinging to the Western Conference's eighth and final playoff spot by a half-game over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
