This appeared to have the makings of a quiet trade deadline until Goran Dragic blew everything up. Now, nobody seems quite sure what to expect on Thursday.
With so many teams still in contention - ostensibly, there are 10 potential playoff teams in the West and 12 in the East - there's no shortage of demand for upgrades. But with so few sellers, first-round picks at a premium and few teams willing to take on salary past 2016, exactly what deals may manifest themselves has even the most tapped-in insiders guessing for the most part.
Oddsmakers are suggesting that it could be a busier trade deadline than expected.
Bovada.lv released odds for several trade deadline props on Wednesday, setting the over/under on the number of trades that will take place at 9.5, with the price only slightly favoring the under. Nine or 10 trades seems like a lot - only once since 2005 has their been double-digit deadline deals - but even last season's low-impact deadline saw nine moves get made.
The names that appear most likely to move are Oklahoma City Thunder guard Reggie Jackson and Denver Nuggets wing Arron Afflalo, who have both spent their seasons moving in and out of the rumor mill. Jackson is listed as -250 to move, implying a 71 percent probability, while Afflalo has a money line of -200, suggesting there's a two-in-three chance he'll move.
Brook Lopez of the Brooklyn Nets (+125) and Enes Kanter of the Utah Jazz (+125) are also listed as individual prop bets that are less likely to be dealt, while the oddsmaker sees the Los Angeles Lakers (-175) as more likely than not to make a deal.
Nine-and-a-half trades. Damn. Buckle in on Thursday.
