Michael Jordan's first retirement from the NBA had lasted less than two years, resulting in a .202 batting average and .289 on-base percentage for the 1994 Birmingham Barons.
On March 18, 1995, after a period of speculation, Jordan returned to the NBA with this two-word press release through the office of his agent:

The following day Jordan suited up for the Chicago Bulls against Reggie Miller and the Indiana Pacers. He would wear the number 45 until the playoffs that season, before reverting to 23. The following year, Jordan's first full season back, the Bulls went an NBA-record 72-10 and won their fourth world championship.
