Rockets' Howard will start in return from 26-game absence Wednesday
Dwight Howard's absence from the Houston Rockets' lineup will end at 26 games, as the eight-time All-Star center will start Wednesday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
It was reported Tuesday that Rockets coach Kevin McHale would restrict Howard to 20-25 minutes for the time being. Howard said himself on Wednesday that he expected that number to be lower in New Orleans.
The Rockets play the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday and the Washington Wizards on Sunday.
Howard has been nearing his return from knee problems for the past week. The three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year underwent a bone aspirate injection in his right knee Feb. 4. Since then, the 29-year-old has been aggressively rehabbing, telling reporters three weeks ago that he hasn't felt as well on the floor all season as he has recently.
Going into Wednesday's game, the Rockets are 17-9 during Howard's latest absence. In 32 games this year, he's averaging 16.3 points, 11 rebounds and 1.4 blocks.
