Report: Brooks to pass on interviews with Pelicans, Nuggets; sit out season
Scott Brooks hopes to break back into the NBA coaching ranks, but first he's going to take his severance package and treat himself to a nice long vacation.
The deposed Oklahoma City Thunder bench boss plans to pass on interviews for vacant head coaching positions with the Denver Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans, and instead sit out the entire 2015-16 season, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.
Brooks was shown the door in Oklahoma City with a year and upwards of $4 million remaining on his contract, so he can afford to bide his time and wait for the moment and opportunity that suits him.
His track record of NBA success - a 338-207 (.620) record, three Conference Finals and one Finals berth in parts of seven seasons coaching the Thunder - should allow him to be choosy.
Wojnarowski reports that while Brooks wants to coach again, he plans to take the year to seek out potential television opportunities and to reconnect with his family in California.
