The lesser-known Antetokounmpo is sick of playing in the D-League.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo, older brother of Giannis Antetokounmpo, played the last two seasons in the D-League.
Thanasis, the 51st pick of the New York Knicks in 2014, hopes for an NBA gig next season, his agent, Tim Lotsos, told Ian Begley of ESPN.
"Doing the same thing like last year, I don't think is an option for Thanasis at the moment," Lotsos said. "He played in the D-League two full seasons, he has gained a lot and it's the moment for him to take the next step and sign a contract with an NBA team."
Thanasis spent 2013-14 with the Delaware 87ers before getting drafted by the Knicks, who promptly stashed him with the Westchester Knicks. The 22-year-old averaged 13.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.7 blocks in 32.9 minutes per game last season.
The trouble with paying dues in the D-League is the meager pay. Thanasis turned down a $550,000 overseas offer to play in Westchester for $25,000.
Lotsos clarified that his client would be fine with playing some time in the D-League if he were signed to an NBA contract.
Given that the Knicks have four open roster spots, Thanasis might just get his wish. Lotsos told ESPN in May the Knicks are interested in signing him for next season.
Thanasis doesn't profile as a strong shooter, but he has enough length and athleticism to be a disruptive force on defense.
