Celtics draft pick Thornton will play in Australia next season
Boston Celtics draft pick Marcus Thornton has agreed to join Australian club Sydney Kings for the 2015-16 season, the team announced Wednesday.
Thornton, the 45th overall selection in last month's NBA draft, was Boston's fourth and final pick of the night. The 22-year-old guard (not to be confused with a fellow NBA guard of the same name) averaged better than 17 points per game during a four-year collegiate career at William & Mary, becoming the school's all-time leader in points, 3-pointers, and games played.
Thornton earned 2015 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year honors and averaged 5.1 points and 1.1 rebounds in eight summer-league contests with the Celtics. He joins a Sydney team that boasts former NBA forward Josh Childress.
