Teams aren't jumping at the opportunity to trade for 32-year-old power forward Nene and his $13-million expiring contract.
It doesn't appear the market is there for any potential wheeling and dealing, even with conflicting reports about whether the Washington Wizards were actively looking to move the big man in the first place.
Nene will, in all likelihood, be a part of the Wizards roster for the start of the 2015-16 season, according to CNSWashington's J. Michael.
If a deal does come to fruition, it will likely be prior to the NBA trade deadline, with the team reportedly wanting a frontcourt player in return to replace Nene's size.
With teams like the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers rolling out larger lineups, the Wizards want to make sure they have the resources to combat that, even though they had luck going small in the 2015 playoffs with Paul Pierce (now with the Los Angeles Clippers) at the 4 spot.
Nene received a ton of backlash following a perceived defensive miscue in Game 5 of Washington's second-round series with the Atlanta Hawks, leaving his assignment and allowing Al Horford to drop a game-winner near the end of regulation.
It shone a negative light on a player who's been a consummate professional and a positive influence on the franchise since his 2012 arrival.
"How quickly those forget that the culture in D.C. changed when the 7-foot Brazilian arrived in a trade with the Denver Nuggets and JaVale McGee and the circus that surrounded him was shipped away for good," Michael wrote.
In four seasons with the Wizards, Nene has averaged 12.6 points and 5.9 rebounds on 50.4 percent shooting with a PER of 16.4.
