Markieff Morris noticeably absent from Suns' early training camp

It appears Markieff Morris is keeping to his word.

Phoenix Suns forward was noticeably absent from the Suns' voluntary early training camp.

As reported by Paul Coro of The Arizona Republic, 10 players under contract, in addition to two others on camp deals, showed up to voluntary workouts this week and have been working out together since Monday.

Morris, who previously voiced his great displeasure with the franchise, was not among them. His absence is in line with comments that he made to Keith Pompey of Philly.com in early August.

"If you want to put that out there, you can put that out ... I am not to going to be there at all," Morris said of his situation with Phoenix.

"It's just when you get to a point in your life, you just need to move on," Markieff added. "That's what I need to do for my career, my family, myself. I just need to move on."

This week's workouts were voluntary, so Morris won't yet face any repercussions for his decision to sit out. Players must officially report to camp by Sept. 28.

The beef between Morris and the Suns stems from the organization's decision to trade his twin brother Marcus Morris. The twins signed extensions – something of a combo deal – with the Suns last summer in hopes of playing together for the long run.

However, the Suns dashed those hopes when they moved Marcus in an effort to clear cap room for LaMarcus Aldridge. That had to sting twice as much for Markieff, as the Suns essentially dumped his brother in hopes of signing Markieff's replacement. Marcus described the move as a "slap in the face."

In the wake of the very public fallout, the Suns find themselves in an extremely difficult situation. Morris is their only viable option to start at power forward and he was arguably their second-best player last season.

Morris posted career highs in points per game (15.3), rebounds (6.2), and steals (1.2), shooting 46.5 percent from the field in 31.5 minutes per game in 2014-15.
