76ers' Covington leaves game with right knee sprain
The Philadelphia 76ers' preseason run ended on a low note Friday night with an injury to the team's leading scorer from last season.
Robert Covington was carried off the court against the Boston Celtics with a right knee sprain.
The injury came during the fourth quarter when Covington landed awkwardly after driving to the basket. The team scheduled an MRI to evaluate the extent of the damage, according to the Boston Globe's Gary Washburn.
The small forward finished the evening with five points on 1-of-9 shooting in 24 minutes of action as the Celtics blew out the 76ers 81-65 at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Covington also chipped in four rebounds, two assists, and three steals in the losing effort.
In 70 games last season for Philadelphia, Covington averaged 13.5 points on 39.6 percent shooting with a player efficiency rating of 14.7.
