Report: Nets players, Prokhorov disliked Lionel Hollins
It appears that personality - and not coaching ability - ultimately led to the demise of former Brooklyn Nets head coach Lionel Hollins.
According to Andy Vasquez of The Record, there wasn't a single Nets player who liked Hollins. The 62-year-old was allegedly condescending, blamed his players, and rarely took responsibility for the team's poor play.
Owner Mikhail Prokhorov was also not a fan of Hollins, according to netsdaily.com, and was willing to get rid of him after reassigning former general manager Billy King, who hired Hollins in 2014.
In Wednesday's contest against the New York Knicks - Tony Brown's first win as interim coach - the Nets looked like a completely different team, defeating the red-hot Knicks 110-104.
Thaddeus Young, who was particularly pleased about Hollins' dismissal, praised Brown following the victory.
"It’s huge. When your coach is not panicking and he’s staying positive and he’s continued to motivate us, it’s huge for us as far as an energy standpoint," Young said. "It makes us want to continue to go out there and continue to play, and it doesn’t keep us thinking about what’s happening before as much."
