Report: Suns seeking young player, 1st rounder for Morris

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

Markieff Morris' tumultuous time in Phoenix could come to an end by the time Thursday's trade deadline arrives, as the Suns are reportedly motivated to accommodate his trade demands, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

However, while the Suns don't intend to bring Morris back for 2016-17 season, Wojnarowski reports rival executives believe the team could keep him for the remainder of this season if Phoenix doesn't receive a valuable young player in addition to a first-round draft pick in exchange for the mercurial forward.

Morris' unhappiness in Phoenix has been well documented since the Suns traded brother Marcus to Detroit in July.

The versatile 26-year-old comes with his share of baggage, as he and Marcus were charged with felony aggravated assault last year in a case that's still before the courts. In addition, Markieff was involved in a shoving match with teammate Archie Goodwin during a game last week that also included Markieff flipping off a heckling fan.

Markieff has struggled through a down year, averaging 11.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists on a career-low effective field goal percentage of 42.2, though he's averaged over 20 points in his last five contests.

Markieff is in the first year of a four-year contract that will pay him $8 million annually through the 2018-19 season, a below-market deal for a player of talents given the soaring salary cap.
