Bosh says medical condition not life-threatening, hopes to return this season

Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat released a statement Thursday saying that his current medical condition is not life threatening and that he hopes to return to action this season.

"I know there have been many questions regarding my health and when I will play again. My situation this year has never been life threatening," the statement said. "I am feeling great and currently I do not have deep vein thrombosis."

Bosh has not played since Feb. 9, and was a last-minute scratch from All-Star festivities in Toronto. Since then, neither the Heat nor Bosh have revealed much about the situation, as concerns mounted he was again dealing with the life-threatening blood clots that prematurely ended his season a year ago.

Bosh added that he has resumed physical activity.

"I have been working out, training with the team, watching film of games, walking through plays, and have attended home games despite not being visible to the public," he said. "I will continue to support my teammates in every way possible. I remain positive that I will be able to return this season."

Beyond quelling the most serious concerns about Bosh's health and career, it appears to be tremendous news for the Heat going down the stretch and into the postseason. Miami is 7-3 in its last 10 games despite a rash of injuries beyond Bosh's condition, and the team seems to have been lifted by the addition of Joe Johnson.

It is not known when Bosh may be ready to play again.

Bosh's statement did not say if he was still on blood thinners. A person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press last month that Bosh had started taking them to combat this clot, which was described as relatively small.
