Report: Mavericks interested in Howard, not willing to pay max
The Dallas Mavericks are once again in the market for a center.
Mark Cuban's team is interested in Dwight Howard, but only at the right price, sources told ESPN's Tim MacMahon. The Mavericks will reportedly be out of the bidding should the four-time Defensive Player of the Year fetch a maximum contract.
The Mavericks pursued Howard when he was a free agent in 2013, but he opted instead to head to Houston. Since making the move, Howard has battled back troubles and failed to create the dynamism that was expected out of a pairing with James Harden.
The 30-year-old holds a $23-million player option to remain with the Rockets, but with the cap slated to jump, it's widely expected that Howard will opt out to test free agency.
Joining the New York Knicks could reportedly be in the cards.
Howard holds averages of 13.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in 32.3 minutes per game this season.
