Valpo's Carter denied hardship waiver for 5th season
Keith Carter's college career appears to have come to an end.
The senior Valparaiso point guard was denied a medical hardship waiver by the NCAA on Wednesday that would have granted him a fifth year of eligibility.
"I thought it was almost a guarantee (that I'd be getting another year)," Carter told The Times of Northwest Indiana's Dan Shelton. "Now I'll prepare to go play professionally."
Carter appeared in just three games as a freshman at Saint Louis, racking up a total of 39 minutes over the course of those contests. After suffering a foot injury, he requested to be redshirted, but that request was denied by then-interim coach Jim Crews, and ultimately he decided to transfer to Valpo after the one season.
"I feel like I only played half of my career," Carter said. "Guys that are sophomores or juniors have played more games than I have, but it is what it is."
Carter averaged 10.3 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.3 rebounds while shooting over 39 percent from behind the arc this past season, but appeared in just 85 games during his four years.
