UConn coach Bob Diaco to donate $250,000 for non-football facilities
The University of Connecticut is in the process of trying to upgrade a number of facilities other than football and basketball.
On Thursday, the school announced football coach Bob Diaco and his wife, Julia, will donate $250,000 to the project to help build new facilities for the university.
"Coach Diaco has a clear vision for the future of UConn's football program," UConn director of athletics David Benedict told uconnhuskies.com. "He and Julia are committed to our overall philosophy that all of UConn's athletic facilities should sustain the competitiveness of the teams that play in them. We're very thankful for their support of our efforts to have modern athletic facilities for the benefit of our student-athletes, coaches and all of Husky Nation."
The athletic department looks to replace the soccer facility Morrone Stadium, baseball's J.O. Christian Field and Burrill Family Field that is home to women's softball.
Costs for the project are expected to reach $46 million, with $25 million of it coming from the UConn foundation.
Diaco is entering his third season as Huskies head coach. He recently signed a five-year deal worth $9.5 million.
