South Carolina named LaNorris Sellers its starting quarterback following spring practice.

"I'll tell you guys what I told LaNorris and all the other quarterbacks - that coming out of spring practice, LaNorris is our starting quarterback," head coach Shane Beamer said Monday, according to The Big Spur's John Whittle.

The redshirt freshman was vying for the starting role in a position battle that included Robby Ashford, Davis Beville, and Dante Reno.

While Sellers will enter fall camp atop the depth chart, Beamer is adamant that the young signal-caller needs to maintain his compete level.

"LaNorris did a great job, and I expect him to continue to compete, continue to earn that position as well," Beamer said.

Sellers impressed during South Carolina's Garnet & Black spring game last month. He led a pair of scoring drives and completed 9 of 11 pass attempts for 70 yards to go along with 38 rushing yards.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound quarterback had limited action last season as a true freshman. He completed all four of his pass attempts for 86 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 51 rushing yards with a rushing score during his 2023 campaign.

South Carolina held a QB competition this spring after Spencer Rattler left for the NFL. Last season, Rattler passed for 3,186 yards, 23 total TDs, and eight interceptions with a 68.9% completion rate.
