Ter Stegen denies deal with Manchester City

Goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is not ditching Barcelona for Manchester City just yet.

The 23-year-old denied Tuesday that he has already agreed to join the Premier League side in the summer.

The Telegraph ran a report last week suggesting City had a £20-million deal in place to sign Ter Stegen, who would have the opportunity to fight for the No. 1 spot with Joe Hart next season. The arrival of Pep Guardiola also appealed to the Germany international, according to the report.

Following the Champions League win over Spanish rival Atletico Madrid, however, Ter Stegen deferred any decision about his future until the end of the season.

"It's not true that I have signed for Manchester City," Ter Stegen told Spanish radio, as translated by Dermot Corrigan of ESPN FC. "At the end of the season we will see what the situation is, and we can talk again then, OK?

"We have so many games at the moment, and that is all I can say. For me the most important thing is to play well, and that we win all our games. Barcelona is an incredible team. I cannot say any more. We will see how it all turns out."

Forced to play in the cup competitions, Ter Stegen has lamented his current role behind Claudio Bravo. But that doesn't mean he has been inactive for large parts of the year: He started Tuesday evening at Camp Nou, his 21st appearance across all competitions this season.
