Warriors' chase for NBA win record at stake vs. Spurs
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr belittled the significance of Thursday's clash against the San Antonio Spurs, but the reigning NBA champions have plenty to play for.
"Of course, what happens tonight doesn't really matter that much," Kerr told reporters prior to tipoff. "What really matters is what happens in the postseason. We all know that. With that said, both teams would like to win.
"Hopefully, we can bounce back from this horrible slump we're in."
Losers of two of their last three games, the Warriors' pursuit of setting the NBA wins record is on the line versus the Spurs, who will be at full strength.
Here's what's at stake for the Warriors on Thursday:
- With a victory, they'd be the second team in NBA history to win 70 games.
- Need to win their final four games in order to surpass the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' record 72-win season.
- Losing Thursday would necessitate wins in the Warriors' final three games in order for them to tie the record.
- A win would prevent the Warriors from losing back-to-back games for the first time this season.
- Warriors can clinch home-court advantage throughout the playoffs with the win.
The Warriors and Spurs split the first two games of the season series, with the home team taking both.
