By the numbers: Leicester within reach of title after topping Sunderland

Leicester City, given 5,000-1 odds to hoist the Premier League title prior to the season, is now three wins away from beating the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal, and Manchester City to the crown in what will long be remembered as one of the most absurd seasons in English football history.

The Foxes inched closer to a first Premier League triumph with a 2-0 victory over lowly Sunderland on Sunday, with Jamie Vardy's brace pushing the Cinderella side an unthinkable 10 points clear of Tottenham.

Going into the stretch run of the season, many wondered if the pressure would get to Claudio Ranieri's men. Would they wilt under the gaze of the footballing world.

In a word: no.

In fact, Leicester has extended its lead over its nearest challengers in recent weeks, winning five consecutive matches to ensure that the silverware, which was too unlikely to even be considered an afterthought at the beginning of the year, is now firmly in one hand.

Here are some of the numbers behind the club's recent run of victories.

0 - Goals conceded in last 5 matches

For all the talk of Vardy and Riyad Mahrez dazzling up front, Leicester's solidity in defence - together with a hefty helping of luck as it relates to a collection of referee decisions - has propelled the club over the last month.

3 - Wins needed to clinch the title

It's happening, friends.

5 - Assists from Drinkwater to Vardy this season

Danny Drinkwater will likely be on the plane to France for Euro 2016 this summer, and if he gets a chance to step on the pitch for the Three Lions, expect him to look for one man when spraying his now trademark long passes around the field.

21 - Goals Vardy has scored this season

Not since Gary Lineker has a Leicester player found the net at least 20 times in a top-flight season.

106 - Tackles made by N'Golo Kante this season

The indefatigable Frenchman leads Europe's top five leagues in successful tackles this season, and has been the driving force for the Foxes in midfield throughout the campaign.
