NFL prospect Shawn Oakman arrested on sexual assault charge
Former Baylor defensive lineman Shawn Oakman has been arrested on a charge of sexual assault following an incident with a fellow student, The Waco Tribune reports.
The arrest took place Wednesday after police searched Oakman's apartment last week, seizing "two comforters, a fitted sheet, and a flat sheet from Oakman’s bedroom," according to court documents.
Oakman admitted to Waco police that he and his accuser had sexual contact but claims it was consensual.
The incident took place after Oakman met his accuser at a Baylor-area bar. The police drafted affidavit alleges Oakman "forced" her into his bedroom before forcibly removing her clothes and sexually assaulting her.
Baylor has been criticized for its slow response to several sexual assault accusations from students in the past five years. ESPN's Outside The Lines reports the school took two years to investigate a 2013 incident involving two football players.
The school announced a plan to improve how they address sexual assault investigations in March.
